Recognizing Signs/Omens: Cricket
When certain plants, animals, natural elements show up in your life - the universe and/or your ancestors are trying to get your attention.
When cricket shows up in your life in a big way, pay attention as the universe could be trying to get a message through to you. If you’ve ever sat outside on a beautiful summer evening you’ve likely heard the beautiful chirping and humming of cricket choruses singing out. For such a small creature, it can make a lot of noise and that is one key to it’s message. If cricket is showing up, it’s inviting you to amplify your voice. It’s considered an companion to help you raise your message and expand your reach. Cricket wants to help you as you make a big noise in the world. Telling your story will not just lift you, but will also help lift up those around you through the power of what you share.
Cricket is also considered a sign of prosperity in many cultures. Some indigenous plains cultures in North America saw cricket as prosperous because despite his small size, he could help overcome great odds and make big impacts (if you have ever seen swarms of crickets you know this is true!). Big things can come from small packages and cricket wants you to know that though you be small, you are mighty! Where have you been holding back, afraid that you aren’t enough? Have you been battling imposter syndrome? Cricket wants you to know it’s time to take the leap and trust that you have what it takes.
Finally, cricket is seen in many cultures as a harbinger of change. In China cricket is associated with the summer and a symbol of seasonal change. Crickets observed in nature will stop chirping and go silent when they sense danger – in tune and vibrationally sensitive to changes in their environment. It’s difficult sometimes to process change and understand its true nature when our day-to-day life is chaotic. Cricket could be inviting you to be still for some time each day and consider what your current changes are symbolizing, or, consider what changes you’d like to invite in. You might consider using sound therapy like the solfeggio frequencies or a sound healing session to further assist you in processing the change and holding the space for what comes next.
