Recognizing Signs/Omens: Peacock

When peacock and its symbolism show up in your life in a powerful way, pay attention! The universe is trying to get a message through to you about the power of peacock.

Peacocks are known for their brilliant plumage, jaw dropping tail feather displays and distinct calls. These gorgeous birds are native to south Asia and are the national bird of India but can also be found indigenous to Sri Lanka, China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia. They’re known in many cultures for their cosmic connection – the bird with one hundred eyes – as each of their tail feathers appear to have eyes at their tip and are said to reflect our universe with its moon, sun and planets. A cosmic bird indeed. And this is one of its first meanings. If peacock is showing up for you it may be reminding you to get out of your earth-bound mindset and see your life, dreams and problems from a cosmic, bigger perspective. We cannot solve our problems from the same thinking that created them. How can we out-create our perceived challenges? How can we activate our third-eye to see greater possibilities?

Peacocks are known for their beauty, while peahens are known for more muted plumage that blends into their environment to protect their eggs and nest. Sometimes we make ourselves energetically invisible during periods of stress, heartache or necessity. There are times where we, too, need to blend in, to mute ourselves, to get through difficult seasons of life. If you’ve been going through it and see peacock this could me a message that it’s time to shed the dull plumage and make yourself visible again. This can come from the inside and the outside. Sometimes working on our effort externally can help support the internal transformation. Who doesn’t love a good Queer Eye/Fab 5 moment. It may be time for you to start making an effort again to show up more visible in this world.
