Signs and Omens: Feathers

Feather, the goddess Ma’at and Libra

October’s New Moon in Libra calls into question some of the symbology of this zodiac sign. Libra is the only sign in the zodiac that has an inanimate object for a glyph. Why is that? Astrology is very intentional and there is deep meaning behind the scales of Libra. Yes, Libra is the sign of balance, relationships and diplomacy but what is the deeper meaning of the scales? They have ties to the symbology of the Egyptian Goddess Ma’at. In hieroglyphics, Ma’at is depicted as either a winged goddess or a goddess with an ostrich feather in her headdress. In her winged form she looks a lot like an Egyptian version of an angel.

Why feathers?

She presided over justice in the afterlife and would place her feather on her scale against your heart after death to see if you were worthy or not of paradise. The feather is a key omen/symbolism for me, personally, so if you start spotting feathers, especially during Libra season – here are some of the meaning’s behind Ma’at and the angel’s messages for you through feathers.
